Scaling into North America

Allovium is the kind of company that does not fit the standard startup narrative. It sells a materials process, its sales cycle is measured in quarters, and its customers are heavy industrial manufacturers with no interest in disruption.

That profile made early fundraising difficult. Local investors were structured for software returns and struggled with a business that needed capital equipment before revenue.

What changed was a single reference customer willing to publish results. Once the performance data was public, inbound demand from North American manufacturers effectively solved the go-to-market problem.

Allovium's Series A was led out of the United States, with local participation. The company has kept its process engineering team in Brisbane, close to the university relationships that produced the original IP.

The case study matters because it shows a viable path for Queensland deep tech: use the state's industrial base as a proving ground, then export the proof.
