Privacy Policy
Last updated 11 September 2026
Queensland Brief is an independent publication based in Brisbane, Queensland. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
Queensland Brief is published by Darcy Porter in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. For anything relating to your personal information, email darcy@queenslandbrief.com.
What we collect
The only personal information we ask for is your email address, submitted through the subscribe form. We also record which form you used and the date you subscribed, so we can honour your request and keep an accurate record of consent.
We do not ask for your name, phone number, address, payment details or any sensitive information. We do not have user accounts or logins.
Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically processes standard technical request information (such as IP address and browser type) in order to serve pages and protect against abuse. We do not use that information to build a profile of you.
Why we collect it
To send you the Queensland Brief newsletter and occasional updates about the publication. That is the only purpose. We do not sell, rent or trade your email address, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Consent
Submitting the subscribe form is your express consent to receive the newsletter, as required by the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Every email we send includes a working unsubscribe link and identifies who sent it. You can withdraw consent at any time and we will stop sending immediately.
Where your details are stored
Subscriber email addresses are stored in a managed, access-controlled database used only by this website. Access is restricted to the publisher. Data may be stored on servers located outside Australia by our hosting and database providers; where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure the information remains protected to a comparable standard.
If we later move the list to an email delivery service, that provider will be named here before your details are transferred.
How long we keep it
Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Unsubscribe requests are actioned promptly, and we keep a minimal suppression record so you are not accidentally re-added.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong or out of date;
- delete your details entirely;
- stop contacting you.
Email darcy@queenslandbrief.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
If you are reading from the EU or UK, you additionally have the rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability. Our lawful basis for holding your email address is your consent.
Children
This site is written for a general business audience and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their information.
Cookies and tracking
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. See our Cookie Policy for the detail.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes affecting how we use your email address will be announced in the newsletter.
